It’s the silly season and rightly or wrongly you may be finding it hard to fit everything in – if you are finding your running or training sessions getting pushed to the back of the priority list don’t despair – here are some EASY ways to keep mobile without adding MORE to your busy schedule!
Live a life less sedentary and continue your adventures!
We’ve all read that sitting is the new smoking and will send you to an early grave, but what is it we are really talking about here? It’s not just the sitting, but our sedentary lifestyles and what we do all day every day that are the leading cause not only of an increased mortality rate but (worse??) of all those injuries you bring to us....
The surgeon said and I quote "you won't ever run again, and you'll probably not walk properly either” I was with another physio for a year prior to Bodyneed, and I was frustrated by the lack of progress when my brother Ben said "go see Bodyneed they'll sort you out...". Meet Tony Frith; intrepid trail walker, favourite teacher and long term member of the Bodyneed Family .. read his inspiring story through injury and beyond...
Want to know the number one difference between athletes who succeed in the long run and those who succumb to injury?
The answer is knowledge.
Understanding how your body works for your sport can be the difference between endless struggle and finally breaking your personal best times and achieving your goals with joy.
Many of you will know her as the smiling face of Bodyneed, the conjurer of seamless bookings and interactions and the key person who makes all our lives just that much easier. Mindfulness may seem like the latest fad, with adult colouring books taking up space in book stores everywhere, mindfulness apps becoming increasingly popular and employers trying to use it as a technique to drive productivity from their staff. However, the concept of mindfulness is not new nor is it likely to be going anywhere anytime soon, especially as more research is published to support its benefits. Unfortunately, it is not all as easy as buying a colouring in book or downloading the latest meditation app, so what is mindfulness exactly?
Winter is coming… and with it long nights, cold days and wild winds…brrr… not the most inspiring training weather to keep you motivated! So what can you do to keep yourself going? What is the best approach for you? Train harder or put your feet up? Cross train or perfect your technique? Or just pack it all in and head somewhere warm?
It would seem off-season training can be as diverse as mid-season training and should be tailored to your individual needs. We asked our awesome clients; a mix of professional athletes, weekend warriors and expert coaches (and our team!) what they do to keep inspired in the winter months.
If you have been following her story you will remember that Natalia had one last chance to prove to the Sailing NZ that she is good enough to get to Rio… here is her update …
Natalia Kosinska is one of our awesome Massage Therapists here at Bodyneed. She is also New Zealand’s top female windsurfer – her road to the Olympics has been fairly epic to say the least – she has qualified in her windsurfing class to go – but that is not enough according to Yachting New Zealand to guarantee them a place in the NZ team. Why?
Well that is a tale of politics and funding decisions – the upshot is Natalia has one more chance to get to Rio (competing in Hyeres, France at the end of the month) but even if she proves herself there she will still have no financial support from Yachting NZ.
And we wonder why we don’t get more medals?? Read the full story from Dana Johannsen, NZ Herald’s Chief Sports Reporter ….

“If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything” - Dr James Kueglar - running coach
We have and continue to see a major shake up occurring in the conventional wisdom surrounding athletic footwear. The pendulum is swinging, and ironically many of folk who ran in the minimal offerings of a few years ago, are now the same people running in the maximal offerings of today. As companies enter the market place and start throwing money around, without standing for something, people will fall for anything.
